PROGRAMS FOR THE ELDERLY
connecting multiple generations together

NURSING HOME PROGRAM

This is a unique program designed to cater for those residing in nursing homes.

Rockit brings dance into residents lives for social interaction, physical conditioning and community connection.

The program was developed via training received from Dance for Parkinson's (USA).

Run via weekly classes inside the nursing home this program brings great joy to all involved.

"This is the most dynamic program I have seen operated within a nursing home. It has great positive outcomes".

Mark Bednall, Director, Andrewartha Nursing Home

"This is the only social activity I don't have to bribe the residents to attend.

They line up at the door to ensure they don't miss the class".

BRIDGE THE GAP PROGRAM

Connecting nursing home residents with school age children.

Rockit hosts a unique program called Bridge the Gap. This program connects local school students (kindergarten, primary and secondary age) with elderly residents in a nursing home.

The emphasis of the program is to break isolation and create new ways for the two generations to interact, share knowledge, brighten one anothers day and form new friendships.

Our younger generations don’t always have connections with the elderly, so this program is proving positive in building an understanding of the elderly in our community, developing respect and appreciation for them as well as increasing a curiosity to ask questions and create friendships.

For the elderly this program is breaking social isolation, providing points of discussion and engagement plus building upon and maintaining physical and mental health.

In 2016 this program was awarded Runner Up in the Intergenerational Award category for the COTA Positive Ageing Awards. A huge honour for our studio.

"These dance classes mean to much to me. I just love being able to dance each week
and sing along to my favourite songs. It makes my day and keeps me going".
Millie (Resident)
