DisABILITY Programs (Ages 5+)
Dance for every body, every story, every ability.
Rockit’s disability dance programs are designed for children, teens and adults with disability to experience dance in a safe, joyful and genuinely inclusive environment. Our classes focus on celebrating each person’s abilities, building confidence, communication and social connection, while also developing musicality, coordination and expressive movement. Dancers can participate purely for the joy of moving to music, or explore performance opportunities and personal goals with the support of specialist staff who understand diverse needs and learning styles, ensuring every dancer feels seen, respected and part of the Rockit community.

"We were overwhelmed (in the best way) walking into Rockit – it was the first place we truly felt welcome, supported and not judged. As a family, that sense of acceptance means the world" Kathy, Rockit Mum
Ages 5-12 years
Launch Pad $16 per class
Launch Pad at Rockit is a disability-inclusive dance program for children aged 5–12, designed to support both joyful movement and meaningful developmental outcomes. Sessions weave together imaginative play, music and structured dance activities with input from occupational therapy principles, helping children build coordination, core strength, motor planning and regulation skills. Alongside the physical benefits, Launch Pad supports school readiness through turn-taking, following group instructions, transitioning between activities, building attention span and practising social communication in a predictable, supportive environment. Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively, grow their confidence and feel proud of what they can do, all while being part of a warm, accepting community where every child’s way of moving and learning is celebrated.
CLASS TIME: Saturday 1:00-1:30pm
Ages 12+
Diversity Dance Company $21 per class
Diversity Dance Company at Rockit is a teen and adult disability-inclusive program where dancers of all abilities can train, create and perform as part of a supportive company. Classes blend technique, strength and coordination work with choreography, creative tasks and performance projects, giving dancers a real sense of purpose and belonging. The program focuses on building confidence, social connection and independence, while honouring each dancer’s unique way of moving and communicating. Company members have opportunities to perform at Rockit events and in the wider community, showcasing their artistry and challenging public perceptions about who dance is for.
CLASS TIME: Wednesday 6:45-7:30pm

"I would highly recommend Rockit Performing Arts to friends and family. Rockit has given my daughter the opportunity to build new friendships within the local community while also developing courage and confidence. The school is incredibly inclusive, welcoming children of all abilities and backgrounds, and truly feels like a beautiful, supportive community. We are so grateful to be part of a place where our child feels encouraged, valued, and excited to dance".

The next step...
At Rockit Disability Dance we understand that children, teens and adults with disability are balancing many different needs across school, therapy, work and home. Our classes are designed to be safe, joyful and genuinely inclusive, offering the right level of challenge while keeping dance a positive, motivating space for every body.
In every disability dance class you’ll see:
- A gently structured, predictable routine that helps dancers feel secure and know what’s coming next.
- Clear demonstrations, visual supports and flexible options so movements can be adapted for different bodies, energy levels and learning styles.
- Activities that build coordination, strength, balance and musicality at each person’s pace.
- Constructive, respectful feedback that focuses on what dancers can do and celebrates effort, not perfection.
- A supportive environment where dancers are encouraged to make choices, express themselves and take age‑appropriate ownership of their dancing.
- We also focus on life-ready skills that extend beyond the studio: communication, turn‑taking, following group instructions, emotional regulation, teamwork, confidence and a sense of belonging in community.
Progress you can see
We believe in developing the whole person, while still helping families see clear, meaningful progress.
By the end of a typical year, many disability dance students will:
- Show improved confidence in group settings and a stronger sense of body awareness.
- Demonstrate gains in coordination, balance, stamina or flexibility relative to their starting point.
- Remember and perform short choreographic sequences with growing independence.
- Use movement and expression to communicate ideas, feelings or stories.
- Build friendships and work cooperatively in pairs and groups.
Across the year we provide:
- Performance opportunities through studio showcases and community events, with support tailored to each dancer’s needs.
- Ongoing communication with families and, where appropriate, therapists or support workers to align goals and celebrate progress.
Flexible ways to start
We know that starting a new activity can be a big step for people with disability and their families.
For new disability dance students we offer:
- A trial period so dancers can experience the class, routines and environment before committing.
- Support to choose the most suitable group based on age, access needs, sensory preferences and goals.
